Desolation Blog Tour: Guest Post by Ali & TWO Giveaways

Title: Destined (Desolation #3)
Author: Ali Cross
Genre: Young Adult
Publication Date: 12/12/2012

Book Blurb:
Choosing is a bad idea, because Desi always makes the wrong choice, and sometimes there are no do-overs. Certainly not this time, when all has been lost and Desi can’t even save herself, let alone her friends. For Desi, the hardest thing is letting someone help her, to accept their sacrifice on her\behalf. But that’s exactly what she’ll have to do in order to save the worlds from Helena’s destruction.

The goddess of Helheimer, long imprisoned by Desi’s father, Loki, is free at last, and she’s bent on reclaiming what once was hers. The nine worlds will be drawn into war, over Hell, over Earth, with innocent humans as meaningless collateral.

While Michael and the Gardians of Asgard, along with the golden-armored Valkyrie, lead the battle for freedom, it’s Desi who holds the destiny of all the worlds in her hands.

Can she set aside her doubts, once and for all, and claim the gifts that are hers to bear? Can she accept the sacrifice that is made for her and Become all that she was created to be?

Her final choice will define not only her future, but the fate of humankind, forever more.

A Guest Post by Ali Cross!

Hi Jessica!

Thank you so much for hosting today's stop on Desi's Destined Tour. You're awesome!

You asked me to write about balancing the pursuit of my passion (writing! duh!) with my life as a mom. To which I reply: Hahahahaha! Because there is no balance. But there is a way to do what matters most.

For a few years I homeschooled my sons and one of the best advice I got was to remember that "every yes to someone (or something) else, is a no to your family." That's been a really important lesson for me to remember because without that little mantra repeating in my head it can be super easy to fall into a whole slew of "yesses" that equal a bunch of "noes" to my family.

Take the internet. We love it, we hate it, we love to hate it or hate to love it. Whichever it is for us, we can all agree the internet can be a huge time-suck! And there's so many great things out there, so many awesome hops to be involved in, social media sites to connect on--just . . . so MUCH! How do we choose between the good, the better and the best?

For me, I try to remember that no matter what else, my family is what's best, what's most important, so everything else comes second to that.

But what about the other stuff? The good and the better? Even the best?

I happen to be struggling with this right now--I think it's normal at this time of year that we evaluate how the year went down, and make resolutions or adjustments for how to make the next year better. I'm involved in a lot of great things--good things, better things and even best things. Obviously, I'd say my writing and publishing is "best", but what about all the good and better stuff?

No one can tell me what's best for me, only I can answer that question. And I think I know the answer. The trick, for me, is having the courage to let go of the good and better in favor for what is best. At this very moment I'm thinking I need to let two really "good" (and maybe even "better") things go in favor of what is best--my writing/publishing and my family.

Yeah, I don't think there's any true balance. I think something always has to give to make room for what is best in our lives. But I do think it's possible to identify what's less important. So if you need to let go of some good and better things, go for it! We can do it together!

Thanks again, Jessica! I'm glad you asked me to write on this topic because now I think I can finally make that decision I've been thinking about official. It's scary to let something "good" go, but . . . I think for the sake of my writing and my family, it will be for the best!
