Title: Antithesis
Author: Kacey Vanderkarr
Publisher: Inkspell Publishing
Publication Date: July 21st, 2013
Genre: YA Sci-Fi Romance

My name is Gavyn.

Liam doesn’t care that I only have one arm. He actually likes my red hair and freckles. I might forgive him for kidnapping me.

My name is Gavyn.

I lost my Liam. I’ve lost them all. And now it’s my job to make sure they don’t show up again.

My name is Gavyn.

I had a life with Liam, but he couldn’t give me what I need.
Then I killed his father. I don’t expect he’ll forgive me for that.

My name is Gavyn.

***Author Interview***

1.) Tell us something about Antithesis that isn't in the blurb.

The whole story! I love the blurb because it’s so mysterious and doesn’t give a lot away. Antithesis is based on a multi-reality theory, so the characters spend a lot of time visiting other “worlds”.

2.) Who has inspired you as a writer?

There are tons of writers I love. Some of my favorites are Cassandra Clare, John Green, Veronica Roth, and Julie Cross.

3.) Do you have a special "writing space"? What is it like?

I write in my kitchen. I know, it’s so glamorous. But I have an old salon chair and I prop my laptop on a stool. Yep. I don’t even have a desk. I also frequent my local Barnes and Noble where I spend hours at the corner table sipping a white chocolate mocha, writing.

4.) Which character in Antithesis was your favorite to write.

Liam. He’s so bad in a good way. While Gavyn is lots of fun, Liam’s smart mouth is my favorite. There’s something about snark and cockiness that’s so appealing. I know, I’m flawed, just like millions of women everywhere. Plus, I can relate to Liam’s “dark” side. He has an entire history just boiling beneath his skin, waiting to explode. He uses wit to hide that he actually cares.

5.) Who are some of your favorite authors?

Whoops, see question 2. Don’t worry, I can list more. JRR Tolkien, Courtney Summers, Holly Black, Kristin Cashore, Alison Goodman, Beth Revis, Sara Gruen, and Audrey Niffenegger.

6.) What are three of your all-time favorite books besides your own?

Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, and The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

7.) Which genre do you find yourself reading the most?

I am a young adult slut. Wait…is that inappropriate? But it’s so true. Give me a YA book filled with drama and I’m so there. I’m particularly fond of YA books that explore friendships between boys (see ANY of Cassandra Clare’s books) and books that make me cry (aka, anything by John Green).

8.) What was the last young adult book you read?

The last book I finished was Prep School Confidential by Kara Taylor (awesome, by the way). Currently, I’m reading Earthbound by Aprilynne Pike.
9.) If you could be any paranormal creature, what would you be and why?

Paranormal creature. Huh. You’ve stumped me. Can I say Batman? I read somewhere that you should always choose Batman. (:

I think I’d want to be a faerie. They seem so tortured and immoral. Sounds like fun.

10.) What can we expect to see from you next?

I have a short story, “How to Fall,” that will appear in Volume 3 of Sucker Literary. I’m also working on an anthology with Urban Fey Press titled, Out of the Green: Tales from Fairyland. I have a manuscript, Reflection Pond, which I’m querying to agents as we speak. (And if you’re asking if there will be a sequel to Antithesis, the answer is, I just don’t know. I’ve considered it, but right now I’m content to let Gavyn and Liam’s story lie.)

    Thanks for the interview, Jessica!

  5. Sounds intriguing. Glad I read the interview - question #1 really made me want to read the book!

  6. Thanks so much for hosting this giveaway on your site! I am SO ready to read this book. I think the cover is really cool, and, no surprise, that is what first attracted me to the book and make me look closer. I love reading about multiple realities (one of my favorite series (duology) is Elizabeth Norris' Unraveling and Unbreakable!) and I'm interested to see how Kacey writes about them. Also, reading this interview I have discovered that there are a number of likes that Kacey and I share: white chocolate mochas; the writing of Julie Cross, Courtney Summers, and Beth Revis; being a YA slut (woot!); and wanting to be a faerie - the "tortured and immoral" kind ;-)

I truly appreciate each and every one of your comments!
