ASK ME BLOG TOUR: Interview with Kimberly Pauley + Giveaway!

Welcome to my stop on the ASK ME blog tour!
Today I have an interview with author Kimberly Pauley, as well as a giveaway for an ARC of ASK ME!

Title: ASK ME
Author: Kimberly Pauley
Publication Date: April 8th 2014
Publisher: Soho Teen
Genre: Paranormal/Mystery
Age Group: Young Adult

Ask Aria Morse anything, and she must answer with the truth. Yet she rarely understands the cryptic words she‘s compelled to utter. Blessed—or cursed—with the power of an Oracle who cannot decipher her own predictions, she does her best to avoid anyone and everyone.
But Aria can no longer hide when Jade, one of the few girls at school who ever showed her any kindness, disappears. Any time Aria overhears a question about Jade, she inadvertently reveals something new, a clue or hint as to why Jade vanished. But like stray pieces from different puzzles, her words never present a clear picture.
Then there’s Alex, damaged and dangerous, but the first person other than Jade to stand up for her. And Will, who offers a bond that seems impossible for a girl who’s always been alone. Both were involved with Jade. Aria may be the only one who can find out what happened, but the closer she gets to solving the crime, the more she becomes a target. Not everyone wants the truth to come out.

***Interview with Kimberly Pauley***

1.) Pitch Ask Me in three sentences or less.

This is the actual pitch I used:

Ask Aria Morse anything, and she’ll have to tell you. Blessed – or cursed – with the power of an oracle, she does her best to avoid people and their questions. But when the murders begin in her small town, Aria finds herself caught in the middle of everything between a web of answers that make no sense and the boy who keeps asking questions.

2.) Which character was your favorite to  write?

In Ask Me I would have to say it was Aria’s grandad Porter, partly because he’s based on a guy I knew.

3.) Would you want to have Aria's power? Why or why not?

No, I don’t think I would. I would hate not having control over what I said!

4.) What are you reading right now?

The 57 Lives of Alex Wayfare, by my friend MG Buehrlen. It’s her first book and it’s awesome. You should read it!

5.) Who has inspired you the most as an author?

There’s no one single author, really, but I will say that I was a huge science fiction reader as a kid. I read all the old classics. If you know anything about the Grandmasters of science fiction, you’ll know that they were mostly male and mostly white (of which I am neither) so I have to say that every time I discovered a woman science fiction or fantasy writer, they inspired me greatly. I’m talking CJ Cherryh, Tanith Lee, Octavia Butler, and many more -- they were (and are) out there. Finding each one and discovering their book definitely inspired me.

6.) You have lived in many different places, which was your favorite and why?

I’m really enjoying living in London. I had always wanted to try living in Europe, but I’d had this romantic notion it would be Italy or France (even though I am horrible at French). But there’s no other city in the world like London.

7.) For those of us who have read your Sucks to Be Me series, what would you say is the biggest difference between Sucks to Be Me and Ask Me in terms of the target audience?

Well, Sucks to Be Me is rated for 12+, but I’ve always had a lot of younger readers write me about the books as the story is quite tame and cute (though I also have much older readers write me too!). Ask Me is definitely more for older readers and I would call it mostly 14+ though I know there are 12 year olds that would be okay reading it. It’s also not a funny book, though there are moments, so readers expecting the silliness of my other books would be in for a bit of a surprise.
