"10 RANDOM THINGS" GUEST POST: Damage Done by Amanda Pantich

Book Summary:
22 minutes separate Julia Vann’s before and after.

Before: Julia had a twin brother, a boyfriend, and a best friend.

After: She has a new identity, a new hometown, and memories of those twenty-two minutes that refuse to come into focus. At least, that’s what she tells the police.

Now that she’s Lucy Black, she's able to begin again. She's even getting used to the empty bedroom where her brother should be. And her fresh start has attracted the attention of one of the hottest guys in school, a boy who will do anything to protect her. But when someone much more dangerous also takes notice, Lucy's forced to confront the dark secrets she thought were safely left behind.

One thing is clear: The damage done can never be erased. It’s only just beginning. . . .

10 Random Things About Amanda Panitch (Me!):
  1. When I was seven or eight, a childhood friend gave me a journal with a pastel-painted Tom Kitten (of the nursery rhyme) on the cover. I started writing a sweet and innocent story about a ten-year-old girl named Mary Shatters who finds a lost kitten in the woods and names him Tom.
  2. My sweet and innocent story about Tom Kitten quickly turned into a story about gang wars and kidnappings. At the end, Tom Kitten saved the day by leaping out of nowhere and scratching out the rival gang leader's eyes with his claws. That was the age I discovered I was not so good at writing sweet and innocent.
  3. I don't like chicken. Or watermelon.
  4. I wrote self-insert Harry Potter fanfiction as a kid. In my world, I was a Ravenclaw who competed with Hermione for the top of the class and was BFF with Cho Chang. There was a love triangle for my heart between Ron Weasley, natch, and a good-hearted Slytherin who had silver hair and purple eyes. Thank goodness I did not post this on the Internet.
  5. I used to want to be a video game designer. I play World of Warcraft (worgen druid and blood elf rogue, yo) and am obsessed with this series of RPGs called Suikoden that ended prematurely with #5. I would sell my soul for Suikoden 6.
  6. I also wrote Suikoden fanfiction. That fanfiction is still online, in an undisclosed location.
  7. Every summer, I go down for a weekend and stay at my aunt and uncle's place on Long Beach Island, in New Jersey. They have a condo right on the bay and out on the bay is a tiny island and on that tiny island is a house, a two-story colonial with a massive wraparound balcony. The house is only reachable by boat and I've always been a little bit obsessed with it. Who lives there? Why? I'm staring at it right now, as I write this. If you are the owner of the mystery house, please invite me over for a weekend and I'll dedicate a book to you.
  8. I'm a tactile learner. I like to touch things. Once I touched a statue at the Louvre, which you are not supposed to do.
  9. I have a habit of starting books and not finishing them. I have a huge folder on my desktop full of novel beginnings that peter out around page 50. Maybe someday I'll go back and finish them.
  10. I am not a twin, but I have a thing about twins. DAMAGE DONE is the seventh novel I wrote, and out of those seven novels, five of them have starred a set of twins (four sets of girl/boy twins, one set of fraternal girl/girl twins).
